An eye for an eye? More like a spy for a spy.
Dr. Xeno decides to send Stanley to assassinate Dr. Taiju (who he believes is the scientist) with Luna as bait. With previous experience as a sniper, Stanley plans to hide in the trees while Luna infiltrates the boat and finds Dr. Taiju. When she does, she plans to give Stanley the signal to shoot.
In a world of intellects and warriors, everyone has their own skill. However, Luna’s air-headedness doesn’t fit in the Kingdom of Science. Her character seems pretty one-dimensional. She acts as a damsel in distress by getting herself all dirty and saying she needs help since Xeno is being cruel to her. Coincidently, this is similar to how Gen infiltrated Xeno’s territory.
When Luna falls on the deck crying out for help, Senku and Ryusui immediately catch on that there’s a good chance she’s a spy. Kirisame stays by her side and it’s obvious that she thinks she’s suspicious just by the way she looks at her. Meanwhile, Tsukasa’s team is trying to find the location of Xeno’s base, but can’t seem to spot anything.
On the boat, Luna’s relentless pursuit for the scientist, who she would consider her perfect match, is a superficial way to conduct her search and takes up screentime that could be dedicated to developing one of the many plot points in Dr. Stone.
Finally, Senku corners Luna and tells her to reveal everything about Dr. Xeno. In order to get her to spill information, they need her to warm up to them first. François decides to make her vanilla ice cream while Senku invents vanilla extract for the recipe. Despite the overarching plot of scientist vs. scientist, the show still makes time for the core message, creating new inventions and evolving the world into the society it used to be.
After everyone enjoys the vanilla ice cream, which Luna loves, she mentions that Senku’s ice cream is “elegant.” When she says this, Senku realizes that Dr. Xeno is the mentor he had as a child who helped him with his science inventions. How will this realization effect how Senku deals with Dr. Xeno?
